Cave Creek is located in Arizona. This quirky town is on the outskirts of Phoenix. It’s been around since the late 1800s. If you want a short day trip to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, Cave Creek is the place to be. Also, you are looking for a break in this crazy year 2021, look no further and go back in time.

This is the perfect opportunity to take a step into the American Wild West when you visit Frontier Town, which is a reconstructed old town from the 1870s, right inside the town of Cave Creek! I’ll talk about it in more detail right after. It is an essential stop during your stay. Take a tour of the various shops and find an original gift to please someone you know! Grab a quick and delicious bite at Buffalo Chip and end your day at Cave Creek Regional Park.

Frontier Town, Cave Creek Arizona.

While visiting Cave Creek, immerse yourself in the Wild West making your first stop at  Frontier Town . Centrally located in Cave Creek, this is the best place to park and walk around town! A short walk from the parking lot, you will find yourself in the center of Main St Cave Creek circa 1880. This small replica town is home to several small buildings, including an old jail, a saloon, and Boot Hill Cemetery. Pass under the original gallows and head to one of the many craft shops Frontier Town has to offer.

First up, Cave Creek Candles and Gifts , you can support local artists while enjoying quirky scents! Explore handmade candles and holders, be sure to smell the Rattlesnake Grass candle before you step out, you’ll be thinking of me! Around the corner, you’ll come face to face with Suzanne’s Hot Stuff. If you like spicy food, grab a bottle of their “Sang de Satan” or “Satans Blood” hot sauce. A gift for his family? Pop over to  Glory Bees  and grab a comic shirt or Arizona sweetie in the form of a Scorpion Lollipop! Frontier Town has many other small shops to browse during your visit. You will inevitably find something to please all the members of your family!

Tip: If you are the romantic type or looking for your future wedding venue, Frontier Town has a secret little white chapel located on the side of the mountain, out of sight!

So once you’ve finished your visit to Frontier Town, head to one of the many shops that can help you spruce up your garden! There are vendors that offer metal sculptures of anything from dinosaurs to sunflowers. Also, at the end of the main road “Main St” you will find Retablo, a shop selling native and Mexican pottery and other unique finds. Walk through the dozens of aisles and find the perfect pot to plant your cactus in Arizona!

Buffalo Chip Saloon

After browsing the stores that have charmed you, refresh yourself at the  Buffalo Chip  in Cave Creek. This city bar has been a favorite for Arizonans looking to enjoy the Western lifestyle. The large property has an indoor dining room and bar, an outdoor patio and even a bull riding arena! You can listen to live music including country while watching brave people test the mechanical bull. Buffalo Chip hosts lots of fun night and weekend activities including dance lessons, bullfights and more. Sit back and relax as you eat your fill or enjoy a cold beverage.

Tip: If you visit Cave Creek | Arizona to escape the  city , but aren’t fully invested in the Western vibe, head to The Horny Toad. This biker bar is a favorite spot for motorcycle enthusiasts and is a great stopover after a long ride. When you pull into the parking lot, be sure to take a moment to admire all the beautiful Harleys parked outside!

Cave Creek Regional Park

Finally, end your day with a sunset at Cave Creek Regional Park. Only a 15 minute drive from the main street! Once inside the park, head to the nature center for trail maps and information on the best sunset spots. Along the way, you will pass by the archery course and stables. Also, I should mention that during the winter season, you can take a guided horseback ride through the park, while learning the history of the park along the way. However, be sure to refill all empty water bottles, staying hydrated is mandatory in AZ! Take a seat in one of the many picnic areas, or at the start of the trails and make yourself comfortable to admire your sunset over the mountains. Remember you are in Arizona, watch out for cacti while walking! (Fact: I’ve already got cactus on my legs while walking in the parks! It hurts a lot = I don’t recommend the experience)

Local AZ Tip: If you plan to stay in Arizona for a few months/weeks. Be sure to get a Maricopa County Parks Pass. This way you will save on daily entrance fees!

In short, if you find yourself in the valley and looking for a way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, look no further. A day at Cave Creek will remind you of the simpler things in life and be a busy day!
